Mid-August in Algonquin, and Fox Valley Region's autocross season is already three deep — which means if you've been telling yourself you'll try one eventually, the calendar's running out of excuses. Autocross is the cheapest way to actually learn your car. Cones, a course you walk before you drive, runs measured in seconds, and a whole lot of standing around talking to people who just did the same thing you did. You'll find your car's limits at speeds that won't hurt anybody, and you'll discover your daily driver is more capable than your commute suggests. Bring a helmet if you've got one.
