Monterey Car Week
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2026: Friday August 14 in Carmel
7 min read · Last updated May 12, 2026
The 23rd annual Quail, A Motorsports Gathering is Friday, August 14, 2026, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The Quail sits at the high-end of Monterey Car Week's gatherings — tightly curated, expensive, and known for OEM debuts that don't happen anywhere else. For Porsche enthusiasts in 2026, the marque is a confirmed Sapphire-tier sponsor alongside Acura and Lamborghini, which historically means a meaningful brand presence even when the featured classes are non-Porsche.
The basics
- Date: Friday, August 14, 2026
- Hours: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Venue: Quail Lodge & Golf Club, 8205 Valley Greens Drive, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA 93923
- Edition: 23rd annual
- Official: peninsula.com/en/signature-events/events/motorsports
2026 featured classes
Per the official Peninsula Hotels event page:
- 100th Anniversary of Route 66
- Lamborghini Diablo
- Legacy of Japanese GTs
- Ferrari F40
No Porsche-dedicated class in 2026. The featured classes rotate annually; recent years have included Italian supercars and American hot rods alongside whichever anniversary is being celebrated. Porsche entries appear in the broader open fields even in non-feature years, but if you're coming for Porsche-dense viewing, prioritize Werks Reunion the same day instead.
Porsche as 2026 Sapphire sponsor
Porsche is one of three Sapphire-tier sponsors of the 2026 event (alongside Acura and Lamborghini). Sapphire is the top sponsorship tier, and historically Porsche has used Sapphire-tier placements at major events to debut new models, host a brand activation, or stage a curated display of pre-production vehicles. Porsche Cars North America was also a top sponsor at the 2025 Quail, indicating continuity year over year.
What this means in practice: even though the featured classes skip Porsche this year, you'll likely see a meaningful Porsche brand presence — new-model display, special event within the event, or both. Specifics tend to be announced 2–4 weeks before Car Week.
Tickets — the friction point
The Quail caps attendance and prices accordingly. Tickets are sold via the Peninsula Hotels event page, and they sell out early in the calendar year. If you don't already have one for 2026, the secondary market is the only path, and prices run well above face value.
Some hotel packages (Quail Lodge stays during Car Week) include Quail Gathering tickets. If you're building lodging plans late, those packages are sometimes the only way in.
What the day is like
Curated, expensive, and uncrowded relative to Pebble Beach. Field is open from 9 am; arriving by 10 gives you a few hours with the cars before the crowd peaks around 1–2 pm. Catering is included with the ticket (and at this price point, generous — full lunch service, multiple stations, wine). The atmosphere is decidedly more lawn-party than judged-show; you can stand next to cars and talk to owners in a way you can't at most concours.
The Quail's reputation for OEM debuts means you might see a manufacturer roll out a new car under tent before it goes public. Doesn't happen every year, but when it does, it happens here first.
Making Friday work
Friday August 14 is the heaviest day of Car Week. Three Porsche-relevant events compete for your time:
- Werks Reunion (7 am–noon at Monterey Pines, all-Porsche)
- The Quail (9 am–4 pm at Quail Lodge, ticketed)
- Rolex Reunion qualifying at Laguna Seca
Recommended split if you have all three on the calendar: Werks 7–10 am → Quail 10:30 am – 2 pm → Laguna Seca paddock 3 pm onward. The Quail being ticketed (and most time-sensitive) makes it the anchor; build the day around your arrival time at Quail.
Plan the rest of your week
- PCA Werks Reunion Monterey (same day, all-Porsche)
- Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca (Aug 12–15)
- Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance (Sunday Aug 16)
- Where to stay during Car Week

For the right occasion
The Quail's dress code is country-club resort — collared shirts, no shorts in some areas. If you're traveling with gear for a multi-day Car Week trip, 1of1 Touring builds a hand-crafted leather touring bag matched to exactly this kind of trip — 100-unit production worldwide. The wider 1of1 Motorsport catalog covers the rest of the kit (hats, hoodies, accessories).
